Lavender in the News

A recent article at (star-telegram.com)reported that in a recent study at the Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital, 14 intensive care nurses who worked 12 hour shifts rubbed essential oils on their forearms and were then asked to rate their stress levels. Half were given a true lavender and clary sage essential oil, while the other half were given a placebo oil made from almond oil. More than half of the nurses using the lavender essential oil reported a decrease in perceived stress. The article emphasizes the importance of using a pure, therapeutic-grade essential oil that has not been diluted or spiked with chemical fillers.*

Lavender was also mentioned at (chron.com), in a reference to a study reporting just five minutes of exposure to a mild lavender scent helps curb the release of cortisol, a stress hormone that can trigger inflammation and lead to premature aging. Other studies are reported to demonstrate lavender's support in fighting insomnia and working as a calming agent. Lavender also has antiseptic properties and can be used to calm headaches when rubbed onto the temples.* (But you already knew that, didn't you?)

New dōTERRA Typography Standards

In an effort to create brand equity through the consistent use of our name and logo, we will no longer use the upper-case "dōTERRA" version of our company name in typewritten content. Instead, we will only use a lower-case lead letter "d" and "ō" and upper case "TERRA" to more closely mimic the typography of our logo mark, "dōTERRA."

The only exception to this typography standard will be the use of an "o" without a top line for non-HTML viewing of e-mails. We ask for your patience as we make these updates to existing company materials, and we encourage you to follow this standard in your future communications that include our company name, dōTERRA.

(To insert the top line above the "o" in Microsoft Word, go to Insert, then Symbol, find the appropriate character on the pop-up palette, and then press Insert. The "ō" character is available in common san-serif fonts such as Arial or Franklin Gothic and is also available in Times Roman. You can also set up an automatic replace function in Microsoft Word using the AutoCorrect Option in the Spelling & Grammar tool.)

dōTERRA Announces Insect Repellent Blend

dōTERRA is proud to announce the forthcoming launch of TerraShield™
Repellent Blend.

As reported recently in HealthNewsDigest--"DEET is commonly known as the king of mosquito repellents, though not everyone is keen to slather it on their skin. A study conducted in the late 1980s on Everglades National Park employees to determine the effects of DEET found that a full one-quarter of the subjects studied experienced negative health effects that they blamed on exposure to the chemical. Effects included rashes, skin irritation, numb or burning lips, nausea, headaches, dizziness and difficulty concentrating. Duke University pharmacologist Mohamed Abou-Donia, in studies on rats, found that frequent and prolonged DEET exposure led to diffuse brain cell death and behavioral changes, and concluded that humans should stay away from products containing it."

dōTERRA's "TerraShield" Repellent Blend includes only Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils. Oil of lemon eucalyptus, which is derived from eucalyptus leaves and is the only plant-based active ingredient for insect repellents approved by the CDC, is one of the oils found in this new blend. This new blend of oils will be up to 10 times more effective than DEET.

Essential Tips for Aromatherapy

Don't buy perfume oils thinking they are the same thing as essential oils. Perfume oils do not offer the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. Even if you only intend on using aromatherapy in your lifestyle for the sheer enjoyment of the aroma, essential oils that are breathed in can offer therapeutic benefits. These benefits do not occur with the use of perfume oils. Read this article
